Since when are naked fat people morally questionable?

Fat people is a fetish for some people I guess?

I think just the fact that their computer is filled with random naked people is seen as weird to some. Also, since fat isn’t the cultural beauty standard, some might wonder why an artist would bother making art of them -.-

Which is rubbish by the way. I often have to sit someone down who’s watching me draw and be like “No I’m not a pervert, I’m drawing a naked person before I draw the clothes on so I can get the muscles and fabric folds right”

I’ve been meaning to practice drawing more body types. I really want to draw a cute pic of my boyfriend since he’s so huge and cuddly but he never sits still long enough and is shy about his appearence. I may have to end up drawing him sleeping which is a bit creepy. ._.

Ware him down with complements. Thats how I had to get my bf to pose for me. Now any time I say I need a model he always volunteers.

Number 10 is the bane of my existence as an artist surrounded by non-artsy people. When I was working at Target, I was folding sweaters with these two other employees and the one girl goes “ughh this is such an itchy orange sweater”, and I calmly said “it’s actually more red-orange if you look at it a certain way…” and from that moment on I was called the “know it all bitch” at work. Glad I don’t work there anymore.

Oscar was adopted as a kitten from an animal shelter and grew up in the third-floor end-stage dementia unit at Steere House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Providence, Rhode Island. The 41-bed unit treats people with Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s disease and other illnesses, most of whom are in the end stage of life and are generally unaware of their surroundings. Oscar was one of six cats adopted by Steere House, which bills itself as a “pet friendly” facility.

After about six months, the staff noticed that Oscar, just like the doctors and nurses, would make his own rounds. Oscar would sniff and observe patients, then curl up to sleep with certain ones. The patients he would sleep with often died within several hours of his arrival. One of the first cases involved a patient who had a blood clot in her leg that was ice cold at the time. Oscar wrapped his body around her leg and stayed until the woman died.In another instance, the doctor had made a determination of impending death based on the patient’s condition, while Oscar simply walked away, causing the doctor to believe that Oscar’s streak (12 at the time) had ended. However, it would be later discovered that the doctor’s prognosis was simply 10 hours too early: Oscar later visited the patient, who died two hours later.

Oscar’s accuracy led the staff to institute a new and unusual protocol: once he is discovered sleeping with a patient, staff will call family members to notify them of the patient’s (expected) impending death.

Most of the time the patient’s family has no issue with Oscar being present at the time of death. On those occasions when he is removed from the room at the family’s request, he is known to pace back and forth in front of the door and meow in protest. When present, Oscar will stay by the patient until they die, then after death will quietly leave the room.

i find this very interesting as this behavior seems common in many cats that reside in mental and nursing homes. Often sharing the bed of the soon to be deceased. In the ancient world cats were revered by many cultures, most famously Ancient Egypt, as guardians of the underworld, keepers of the gate of death, and sometimes even harbingers of death itself. This makes me wonder whether this behavior was observed during ancient times as well and perhaps prompted this belief and many practices surrounding it.

Fan Service in the Anime, Sexism in the Fandom: Why Fan Service in Anime is a problem

Fan service is a rather infamous thing in anime. It seems to be, well, almost everywhere. Yes, there are plenty of series that are blissfully free of fan service, but it is one of those things that pops up more than it should.

We define fan service as the hyper-sexualization and objectification of women’s (and sometimes even young girls’) bodies within anime. Fan service is framed in a highly sexualized context and is aimed at a male audience. It should be noted here that not ALL “revealing” outfits are fan servicy. Misty from Pokemon, after all, wears a bare midrift and very short shorts, but isn’t fan service.

Fan service takes the form of panty shots, boob shots, useless bikini armor, and is deliberately framed in a sexualized male-gazey way.

So, why is that a problem? Who cares? Isn’t is just good fun? Well No.

Fan service turns women’s bodies into a PRODUCT to be sold to men. It is a SERVICE after all, remember? It frames women as simply eye candy, there for men to drool over, a ploy to male boys by DVDs because there’s tits on the cover.

That’s dehumanizing and alienating to many female fans, and it often leads to very poorly written female characters in the text.

Not only is it just a problem within the text however, but it bleeds into the fan community as well.

There is a very real problem at many cons surrounding Cosplay harassment. Female fans is cosplay are seen as fair game for harassment, unwanted groping, and the like. After all, the characters these women are dressed up as exist as objects for men to droll over, so men see women dressed like that as objects to drool over too.

It is important to remember than fan service does not inherently RUIN an anime or a character. But it is a problem, and the sooner we confront that problem as a community, the better.

Why do you feel SO entitled to sexualized images of women’s bodies that you feel THREATENED by women criticizing objectification? Threatened enough to threaten others?

Okay, let me tell you what is wrong with this post. Lets take an example from one of my personal favorite anime: Bleach. Now, we’re gonna look at the character of Orihime, and explain her impact on the fanbase. Orihime, as you all know, is your prime example of the shallow, fanservice character. That being said, the majority of the fanbase - yes, this includes us men - HATE her. She does not contribute to the plot in the way as other female leads such as Momo and Yuruichi provide. She does conflict other than her undying loyalty to Ichigo. If you look through the fanbase, you’ll find that many people ignore her as a whole. Yes she has big boobs, and yes she’s supposed to be “hot”, but that does not necessarily mean that we buy into it. Just like any other “trade” there is supply and demand, and in the anime trade, fanservice isn’t big in demand. Next time, I suggest looking at the majority, instead of attacking the minority and treating it like the majority.

1. I would argue that Orihime is considerable less objectified than many many many characters I can think of. Bleach itself doesn’t have as big a problem of this in my experience as many other shows (like, for example, Love Hina)

2. Your point fails. Not only is Orihime objectified by the narrative, she is also disempowered by the narrative as a character, AND the fandom completely refuses to respect ANY accomplishment she has. Character bashing + objectification = double shit.

Bleach is a sexist fandom. That’s part of the reason I left it.

3. One example does not nullify the problem for the ENTIRE medium or community.
